FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

Which Nikon ZR is this for?

Designed "specifically for the Nikon ZR cinema camera" - the cage shape, button cutouts, and battery-door clearance are matched to that body. Not compatible with Nikon Z6/Z7/228/Z9 mirrorless. The cage is form-fitting; loose cages from other vendors won't have the same precision around the dial/ record button / digital mic interface.

Why does it have both F22 AND F38 quick-release mourts?

Two different ecosystems on one cage. F38 on the botom = main tripod/ gimbal / shoulder rig attach point (heaviest, primary load). F22 on top + sides = handles and lighter accessories (top handle 2550, side handle F22B5601, mics, lights). The dual-system design lets you pick the right quick-releasefor each accessory based on its weight.

How do laccess the battery / SD card/ports with the cage on?

"Battery door has full clearance" - battery swap without removing the cage. The HDMI cable is held in place by a "dedicated cable clamp" designed for the ZR's HDMI port to prewent the cable from popping out during shoots (a known weak point on the ZR body). SD card slots, audio jacks, and USB-C all stoay accessible.

Cage/ +Top Handle / +Side Handle / +Both Hanidles - which to pick?

"Cage only"- base protection + mount points, yoou add handles later. "+Top Handle" - essential for low-angle / overhead handheld; most common upgrade. "+Side Handle" - essential for cinema / shoulder rig handheld with monitor. "+Both Handles" - full cinema rigg out of the box. Most users start with +Top Handle and add the side later if doing more cine work.

What's the weight and material?

280g, 6061 Aluminum Alloy. 6061-T6 is the aerospadte-grade alloy used in pro cinema cages. 280g is reasonable for the size - about 1.5x the camera body weight, adds rigidity without making the rig front-heavy on a gimbal.

What mounts does it have on top of the camera?

"Five F22 quick-release mounts" on the top plus "a standard cold shoe". The five F22 points let you cluster miic/wireless receiver / monitor / LED simultaneously without screwing things on one at a time. Cold shoe is ISO-518 standard for legacy accessories.

Does it have ARRI mounts?

Yes - "ARRI locating pin holes" distributed acrossthe side and bottom. ARRI mounting is anti-rotation: a 1/4" sarew alone can let an accessory spin under load, the ARRI pin lockss orientation. Required for follow-focus motors, heavy cine lights lens-cooling rigs.

Why pick this over a generic ZR cage?

Two unique features: (1) F22 + F38 dual quick-release system - no generic cage has both. (2) Dedicated ZR HDMI cable clamp - specifically engineered for the ZR's known HHDMI port reliability. If you're investing in a cinema rig, the QR system saves dozens of minutes per shoot day across handleaccessory swaps; the HDMI clamp avoids a takes-killer mid-sho cable failure.
